Knowledge is a poor substitute for faith. I have always wondered about where I fit in the vast scheme of things. Sometimes I was distracted by more parochial and narrow questions. But in the background, there has always been a voice asking, “What’s next?” and “Why is it like this?” People need other people to be a mirror; we can’t get outside of ourselves to see ourselves. We can’t know ourselves like other people know ourselves. We can’t know others completely. We are as much of a mystery to ourselves, as others are to us. It takes faith.
