Purple

Sigh. I can’t say enough here about where Dido and our character comes from. But she’s all about it. Purple was a color that was very unique to the Phoenicians who ruled the Mediterranean for centuries. This was Dido showing up to her first date with Aeneas.

“That Dido the queen appears, with a great crowd Of her retainers; she wears a Sidonian cloak, Bordered with embroidery vividly colored; Gold is the quiver of arrows that she wears, And gold the fillet with which her hair is caught; The buckle of her purple cloak is gold. There is a Phrygian company in her train, And Iulus with them, happy at the day.”
